And 100% have trouble connecting with other people. So they subscribe to identity politics to finally have some semblance of community with whatever side they decide to pick. Its pretty damn sad, but when I look at the kind of people who do nothing but talk about political bullshit all day they tend to be socially maladjusted in some form.

Like, generally the type of person that would bring it up to begin with is the same type of person that would immediately engage when they see it brought up.

Honestly people who get caught up talking about politics all the time probably don't have many other interests, or just interesting things going on in their lives.

When you have less to worry about, your focus and priorities shift - no longer am i contemplating how I'm going to eat, I'm contemplating why Americans should accept higher taxes in a state that I don't live in!

My moms like that.

Shes in her 60s and watches MSNBC or CNN on a pretty much constant loop when shes awake. Then whenever my family goes out, shell talk about the latest political issues of the day. Thats basically all she does now. Because of my dad working, she hasnt had to do anything except raise me and a sibling for 25 odd years.

The annoying thing is that shes the classic example of a disaffected baby boomer in an ivory tower who goes along with what the majority of the mainstream media says because she grew up in a time when the TV broadcasts and print media were king. She actually sees them as really the legitimate outlets to get her news. So at this point she just votes Democrat etc even though she is conservative af in everyday social life and freaked out when I told her I dated Latinas a few years ago. Not to mention, she literally has access to a ton of leisurely material from books to multimedia...and she chooses to waste away watching news and just rehashing the talking points she hears.

I disagree. I know several people who are completely fine with not bringing up politics, but won't let things pass when others bring them up out of principle.
