I could never get into Scott Pilgrim.

A lot of my friends did but I just never found it funny and Scott is just a massive douche.

"Thats the point!" I hear the hipsters cry.

But... It's just not interesting to hear about a douche wandering around being a douche. If it was you could just look out the window and see a dozen douches going about their lives

not cringe because of edgar wright. but more of the racial jokes with matthew patel and knives. and then the gay stereotypes with wallace. the general insensitive/smug nerd humour

The comics have aged better than the movie for me.

Until the finale.

Even the author says if he had the chance he would've done it differently.

Yeah, the final fight of Book 6 felt a bit...off. There's definitely a different feel between that and the other 5 books, and not just in art style. But eh, they killed Gideon with X-Strike, and that validated everything else ^^

why though

Because when you think Scott Pilgrim - a (presumably) handsome, slightly jockish, self-absorbed slacker and bassist in a struggling rock band who is both an unwitting chick magnet and the best arcade-style fighter in the entire province of Ontario - you immediately think George Michael Bluth. It's somewhat ironic that Michael Cera would have been a little more convincing as Scott if he'd kept some of the meat on his frame that he'd had in his George Michael days. But ultimately, the vibe thrown off from him playing Scott is 'we think this is literally the only young quirky Canadian actor in the entire industry.'

Two other big miscasts are Ramona and Knives. Movie-Ramona is played with such lifeless, monotone generic-hipster chick energy that by the end of the movie, plenty of people who saw it wonder why Scott bothered to chase after her. Movie Knives has little of her book counterparts confused and manic energy - it's not just for the sake of a running gag that the book constantly points out that she's 17 years old and in way over her head. But in both cases, this is likely not entirely the actresses' faults.

Stephen Stills and Kim Pine are slight miscasts imo, but in the latter case I'm only picky because Kim's my favorite character from the books.

What's really surprising all things considered is that the Seven Evil Exes are cast flawlessly. Hell, Chris Evans even improves over his book counterpart, which is a pretty rare thing. Kieran Culkin as Wallace wasn't exactly what I had envisioned, but he ended up nailing the part as well.

but ironically, it ends up being perfect because these days....those hipster type girls love scrawny dorky white guys
