That's a very intriguinging question indeed. Maybe it is because women in general just don't get enough opportunities or are even that competitive inately and therefore don't get as much involved as men do. Anatoly Karpov recently played a chess match against Yifan (strongest current women Grand Master) and she lost, even though Karpov is old and not even an active player as far as I know.

Yeah she definitely put up a good fight, though Karpov himself is a pretty strong player (one of the strongest world champ IMO, right behind Kasparov and Fischer).

Women are less logically inclined.

If anyone cares to take the Myers-Briggs seriously for a moment, about 25% of women are T type as opposed to about 56% of men.

The type most commonly associated with chess, the INTJ, is tied for least common amongst women.
