The US turning on its own people won't happen for two reasons, primarily:

1. An armed citizenry. Yes, the military has tanks, drones, etc., etc. But when you're fighting for every inch of ground every day, severely outnumbered, what do you do? Who do you pull new soldiers from, if the people you're trying to fight are your recruitment pool?

2. You're asking soldiers to kill their own people, which might work for a portion of the military, but I would bank on a large contingent defecting. It goes against everything the US military has stood for to kill American citizens. Those orders won't hold for long.

Same people believe the myth that Hitler disarmed the entire population ignoring that the Weimar Republic did it prior to the rise of Hitler while Hitler actually relaxed gun laws for plenty of people, including all military, party members, and allowed more permits to be passed.

this. Try as the military might to "reprogram" you, soldiers are ultimately human and wouldn't turn against citizens. They're not robotic killing machines lacking morals.

I've never cared for this kind of argument because it relies on pure speculation. About the only relevant historical parallel we have to go by is the uprising in the Warsaw ghetto, and that just led to the SS liquidating the town with fire and bullets rather than escorting them to the trains. Hell, the Nazi war machine was so powerful that it took two frigid Russian winters and the entire Russian army to repel them from the eastern front - and that was a trained regular army (that also engaged in guerilla tactics in cities like Stalingrad).

Just go look at the Waco debacle in 1993, to see how pointless an argument this is.
