Why do people think it's about blaming the gun? The gun isn't getting arrested and charged. This event has caused us to question whether it's such a good idea to let people have such easy access. It's a conversation that needed to happen.

This is a bad example.

Literally, every driver is screened, educated, tested, and licensed. Those licenses can be revoked by the government for any infraction and are routinely have to be renewed. To get your license, you have to provide several examples of ID, pass both written and with a licensed instructor. In many areas, you can only get a license from a government licensing center. Then, when you are on the road, the police have the right to stop and inspect your car for any perceived infraction. They can seize your car for infractions. If you want to cross any border, state/provincial or national, your car has to be inspected by local authorities and made sure it's up to that state/province's codes and standards.

I mean, that all seems like a far cry from buying a gun and bullets from your local superstore.

We raised the drinking age to combat drunk driving.

The drinking age has literally nothing to do with drunk driving. Raising it to 21 in most places was purely to minimize alcohol use in schools.

The only people that let Cruz have that gun were the government who literally did fuck-all to enforce the laws that specifically would have prevented him from obtaining that firearm.

However, because the government literally did fuck-all to enforce the laws that specifically would have prevented him from obtaining that firearm, we have a bill in Congress right now that would outlaw almost every semi-automatic firearm in existence, and make criminals out of law-abiding citizens merely for owning one.

I think the irony that I find is that the same people who claim they need their guns to defend themselves are the same ones that generally argue the government has super drones and all sorts of other conspiracy theory super weapons. They seem to think that Joe Sixpack with an AR-15 is a perfect match for a tank.
