The government has already normalized mass surveillance. They president is actively attacking journalists.

Any concession made just weakens the constitution. It says we're OK with letting the government take away inherent rights.

The 2nd amendment was put in place to keep the government honest. A free society should be armed. The government should fear a rebellion. They should know people aren't going to sit there and let them chip away at our rights.

It's always sad when someone dies but the rights of the people will always trump the dead.

The government and their weapons could fuck the people up

The government couldn't slaughter people without an uprising. The military wouldn't mindlessly follow the government. If real need arises it would turn into a civil war. A revolution wouldn't be just military vs citizens and even if it did a bunch of people in caves have done alright for the last 25 years.

The idea that Americans will stand to overthrow their government is a fantasy that will NEVER happen.

And Im not even saying the logistics that the people will even be able to do it. But that they will actually coordinate and even try.

Its not gonna fuckin happen

Hey Bill, get yer gun. Were overthrowin the govement
Gee, well that sounds like fun but the kids have volleyball practice

You honestly think there will be anything that will unite Americans to make a change? You cant agree on literally any issue.

ill be honest, I'm pretty left leaning, but i struggle to accept gun control, even though I know guns are a problem.

we need to do something about guns... but I don't wanna get rid of them. idk how people can shit on the trump organization and act like they're crazy lunatics and then at the same time say we should disarm ourselves.

idk. im sick of seeing people die and seeing kids die but I don't know how I feel about getting rid of guns. I want mental health reform and people to stop bullying and saying shit like "soyboy" or "cuck". men are the main mass murderers for a reason.

The armed rebellion crap is so ridiculous. Especially the Vietnam comparison. The NVA/Vietcong were battle hardened and heavily supported by the Soviet Union/China. Who is going to support a hypothetical armed rebellion in the USA? Even if someone wanted to it probably wouldn't even be possible to smuggle enough weapons into the country to make a difference. Rebels would not have widespread access to RPGs, hand grenades, artillery, anti-air guns, armored vehicles, tanks, fighter aircraft, etc like the NVA/Vietcong did. The US Military has also advanced considerably since then. The civilian population's small arms would be little more than pea shooters against the US military of 2018. With advances in technology i'd give it a month before all of the rebel leaders are either dead or imprisoned.

The "people will rebel against the government" is the most absurd ridiculous fantasy I've ever heard and anyone who ACTUALLY believes this (contrary to just using it as an argument for keeping muh guns) is suffering from severe delusions.

What could the "government", which is already completely different by state and not some unique entity, possibly do that would unite the country into a militia to "fight" them? Like, what are the possible conditions for this absurdity to even happen?

Your elections are rigged (looking at you DNC), you have a complete buffoon and compulsive liar as your commander and chief, your government spies on you against your will, you have offshore torture bays, healthcare is a (deadly) joke and close to 1% of your population is behind bars.

Where's the revolution?

A lot of people seem to argue that because it's in the constitution, it must never be changed because of some dubious "m-muh rights". Should the 18th amendment have stayed? Its repeal weakened the constitution!! Stop treating the constitution as gospel (hell, gospel itself shouldn't go without scrutiny either). The second amendment does much more harm than any sort of imagined benefits. You can see this obvious reality played out in pretty much any other first-world country.

You're living in a fantasy land if you think access to guns "keeps the government honest". Do you think our government is honest as it's been? In fact, the illusion of freedom is sometimes a bigger impediment to achieving true freedom than the blatant absence of it. People become complacent thinking they have freedom and a fair system, when the reality is far from it.

Remember when the Government secretly gave blacks syphilis and promised to give them free health care?
And decided to look how bad it could get instead of giving them a real cure?
Or when they secretly gave people drugs in MKULTRA? And tried to brainwash people with drugs and electricity?
Or sold illegal guns to criminals in operation Fast and Furious which were used to kill innocent people?
Or when they injected 18 people with plutonium, gave more than 800 pregnant women vitamins that contained radioactive iron, and gave 73 Massachusetts disabled children radioactive oatmeal?
Or when they decided to give cancer patients huge ammounts of radiation just so they could learn how fast they could send in soldiers after dropping nukes?
Exposing 2500 US sailors for mustard gas?
Killed over 10000 US citizens with poison alcohol?
Yes, our guns truly keeps our Government honest.

They're a tool; neither good or bad.

They've been elevated to a symbol though and a divisive point. The constitution was quick to give rights but fucked up at establishing responsibilities.

Now you have two groups of people, both screeching about the things when if it had been established: yes you can have weapons, but you're going to need to be responsible in how you use them, perhaps it wouldn't be such a mess as it is now.

If you like them, fair enough. If you hate them, fair enough. Giving people a sense of entitlement to them though; is it any wonder that some behave like a child that won't give up a toy...
