Morrowind was a great game for the time and has a lot of depth to it that is sorely missed in todays market

But it does not play well my dude

No matter how many mods you try to pump into it the janky ass combat never gets any better. Characters have a lot of depth yet are completely lifeless, they just stand there to dispense dialogue or die. It has the most interesting world, and geography of any ES game yet but nothing really happens.

KCD is what the Morrowind team would make with todays technology, I think.

Fun fact, the morrowind xpac for ESO is so faithful to the original that it's worth playing just as a single player experience if you can get it on sale.

Ohh youre talking about Elder Scrolls Online?

I thought you were talking about Oblivion. Shit I was like I thought Skyrim was the one with a Morrowind expansion

You are creepy

Wait, can you not? All I hear about is how deep it is.

No, you don't design your character. You play as Henry. Period.

They all just sort of exist for you to do chores for them and then bang them.

Wasn't this made by an alt-righter?

I'm not sure, but I think I've met four named women so far, I did quests for two of them resulting in banging, one ran a whorehouse, and the last one was literally only named 'old whore' and made me steal shit for her because her husband threw her out for another woman (who she then murdered).

You haven't met Johanka yet?

I legit have been looking at giving it a try...but I feel like I'd be spending too much money. I don't think my computer can handle ESO, so I'd have to get it for my PS4. Which means: buying the game, and then buying a subscription for Plus, and, if I want the full experience, buying a ESO subscription.

There is dialogue options. Youre just throwing demands on a game you dont know anything about.

Maybe try playing the game they made. Because they dont let you create a character for very specific reasons. How many GOTY awards has the Witcher 3 won? How much character creation does that have?

Having a predetermined character allows them to create a richer story, tailored around that character. Which again, isnt a save the world, hero story. So youre not commander Shepard, and it doesnt matter what Shepard fills that role because its YOU and youre the most important snowflake in the universe.

Far better than running around 1400s Bohemia as a 300 pound black woman with a green Afro.

There is no dialogue options, actually. You don't get to make decisions in most conversations beyond the basics (fight, bribe, intimidate, etc).

Except for the fact that despite being a peasant in 1400's Bohemia, the nobles let you do what you want and everyone treats you like you are the messiah.

As I mentioned, as well, the story isn't 'rich'. Again, I'm not saying its a bad game, but people should go into with their eyes open. The story is by the numbers.

Allow me to illustrate something from the prologue so that you can understand what it is that makes it deep.

There was a ruffian German at the bar talking smack about the king, and Henry's friends didn't like that. They grab him and say let's repaint this guy's house with some of that dung that's behind it. Henry is not super into it, but agrees to join them. You go to his house and throw shit at the walls until he shows up, then there's a big brawl until the catchpole Starr's chasing you, and you all run away.

Now in a totally different quest, your father has told you to collect a debt from a man he sold things to on credit. That man is unagreeable and he decides to beat up Henry. Now, this is certainly a winnable fight, but he kicked my ass. Ok, so he basically breaks some bones and tells me to piss off.

Then it gives me a new quest to have Henry's mom patch me up. I go back home and there's some dialogue that strengthens their relationship and then I'm good as new.

I then go back to where my friends had gathered and here's where it all comes together. It gives me the option to say since I helped you, I need your help. Which then leads to him explaining he needs to collect this debt, and they all agree to help. We then walk to his house and jump him 4 on 1 and beat him into the ground.

Different quests all interacting together to achieve an end. You fail at something one way, there's always another option. That was the first thing that really opened my eyes to how special it is.

I'm gonna mark spoilers for this. If you have any interest in playing the game please go in as blind as you can and just create your own experience.

And what's great about this is this played out a bit differently for me than it did you. See I did dung painting and then because I did my friends a favour, we went and beat the shit out of the dude with the debt. Easy 4 on 1 nobody got hurt...well except for the dude who couldn't repay his debts but that's his fault now isn't it.

So I never got hurt and had that interaction with the mother. But I did get a good scolding from the father...and let me tell you the writing in this game is so fucking good, the acting and even down to the character models and mannerisms...I actually felt that scolding hit me as if it were delivered by a real character. I mean I had complete control of my actions as a player and I chose a pretty shitty option (cough)...it made me want to go back and apologize. It made me want to replay it and see what I could have done different.

Hallmark of an amazing game. And of course I couldn't undo my choices...and it was too late to apologize.

You came to this topic yourself bud. A topic in which I'm just talking about how much I like a video game and why I do.

No, you aren't understanding what I'm saying. I said I didn't like how they spoke with Shakesparean/Elizabethan accents despite the fact that;
A) The accents are from about 200 years after the fact.
B) English accents sounding absolutely nothing like anything from the area.
I mean, if they bothered to record it in Czech, why not at least get the modern equivalent of a Czech accent? That's right, it's because people assume Elizabethian accents make it sound 'old-timey'. It's goofy.

Yes, but that is justifiable because it's a translation for the player. Giving them British accents is the equivalent of having a WWII game where the Americans at Normandy speak Swahili. It's not the language that I'm saying is silly, it's the fact that they have butchered 'ye olde' English accents. It's not the language I'm saying is silly, it's the accent. I'm not sure how I can make that any clearer and there is no reason for you to be rude in the first place.

I dont see how thats even similar. Having them speak Italian/English/anything instead of Czech would be a more apt comparison.

I just think its an unfair criticism when you have the option to make it more historically accurate. The translation point is moot as you can still have English subs when the voice acting is all Czech.

If you don't see my point at this point, you are being willfully ignorant. They used butchered 'ye olde' English because that is what people expect, which is silly because they also reason that many of their design choices and the standard conventions they bucked were in the name of historical accuracy.
