I always get something between social liberal and libertarian socialist. But I think a state, albeit a severely limited one, is necessary, and I don't believe in the appropriation of the private sector so I'm not a socialist.
I do believe in a welfare state and social programs though.

I got "libertarian socialist" and this. Not by any means.

I'd say I'm more of a social democrat than anything. But these kinds of tests are always stupid and reductive.

I stopped after my, like, 10th Neutral/Unsure response. A lot of these questions are too complex to allow for a simple "yes," "no," or "iunno" response. It's the same problem with pretty much all of these mind/personality tests.

One of the ones in particular I had a problem with was one that asked if something is "very important." Like, what's the difference between agreeing and strongly agreeing that it's very important?

And yeah, this. I had a lot of those, because there's absolutely no room for nuance on most of those questions.

Easy example is the first question I saw: "Oppression by corporations is more of a concern than oppression by governments."

My opinion is that it ultimately doesn't matter where it's coming from - oppression is oppression. If I click "disagree" because I don't exactly agree with that statement, the test will likely interpret it as me saying I think governmental oppression is worse than corporate oppression, which I don't agree with either. If I click "neutral/unsure" then the test will likely not move the meters in either direction.

Boom - my actual opinion doesn't have a choice here. So fuck this quiz.

(Based on the images I'm seeing and the titles attached to them, "Egalitarian" is likely the closest description for me. But I can't be bothered to find out.)

He covered that. Clicking neutral just throws the question out, it doesn't actually represent and take into account his views.

Even in those cases, a "centrist" option that's separate from the "I don't know/care" option would benefit it for the sake of clarity. I care about corruption, but the neutral option as it is suggests I don't.

The reason I'm so nitpicky about this is that I've seen stuff like this done much better. The ISideWith website test for determining what presidential candidate one should vote for was brilliantly done compared to this topic's test. Each question had its answers carefully tailored to it, and even more extra options in case those answers didn't quite match up with your views. It wasn't just five levels of agreement. (Whether basing such a big choice on an online test is a good idea is another matter, but the test itself was well put-together.)
