the "n" isn't really strong in "going to" yet it becomes kinda the focus of the word, and theres no "a" at all.

edit: and what makes it different than "gotta"

It kind of has it's own meaning if you think about it. You can say "I'm going to punch you" and "I'm gonna punch you" but you can't really say "I'm going to the store" and "I'm gonna the store."

Gonna doesn't always work as a replacement for "going to" but when it can be, it usually sounds better.

No, that changes it from present tense to future tense. It's not the same meaning.
