Godfather 1 stands as the GOAT film because it stands alone as a complete film. Each movie was very respectable on its own, but the way they both did different genre fiction so perfectly, while keeping an intact story is what makes them. I'm also not a huge fan of The Godfather. I don't like the pacing. I find the time skips very poorly done. The second was much better in all aspects. The book is just awesome. Still, Alien/Aliens beats The Godfather Parts I and II handily. --- I wrote a horror short story collection. Different kind of film though so it's hard to really compare.
