France's interior minister says two potential terror attacks have been thwarted in France since January.

Minister Gerald Collomb says Sunday on CNews television that one attack was targeting a major sports center, and the other French soldiers. He said both plots were "not totally finalized." He didn't elaborate.

Collomb said several suspects in the cases have been arrested and jailed. They were known by authorities as radicalized, he said.

The French government on Friday unveiled a wide-ranging new program to counter radicalization, as French jihadis return from the battlefields of Syria and Iraq and the watch list grows of people showing risk signs.

The plan, made up of 60 measures, puts the accent on prevention, notably aimed at trying to catch danger signals within society.

Glad to see their increased security measures and vigilance are paying off.

Glad to hear it but sadly they stopped terrorism plots all the time.

They just keep coming endlessly V_v

There's going to be another attack in France before the year is out.

France is a major target, so this is always a possibility. The interior minister is crediting the success in stopping these plots to the new policies they enacted. Hopefully that continues.

Do you know what kind of new policies they have? I'm very curious. I'm also lazy, hence me not looking them up myself

This was approved last year with a long-term focus when the "state of emergency" status was lifted.

Thanks, appreciate the link.

The law will incorporate several measures first authorised under the emergency arrangement.

They include easier searches of homes and confining individuals to their home towns, without judicial approval.

Stuff like this kills me, but I guess it's kind of the only way to really start cracking down on suspicious activity. Maybe? The thought of the police just coming into my home kind of irks me. But, if it has reduced terrorist crimes, then who am I to say anything.

I mean, its stated success still can be weighed against the infringements of privacy involved. These things would constitute violations of constitutional rights in the US

France isn't the US

They are happy to trade civil liberties for security
