Yeah. Hard work, commitment, dedication, and the ability to go far outside of what you feel your comfort zone is can go a very long way.

So what's the story, man?

I was a fuck up in high school, reputable to become a criminal and no one took me seriously. Grades were bad, I was a fat loser that had one friend. My dad died of a brain tumor, and had no set plan for my mom and their future. Days after I barely graduated, I joined the military, had to lose weight before they would even accept me into training. Took the easy route and became a truck driver in the army, thinking it was smart. After I got through basic and AIT, lost 60 lbs in 17 weeks, I was deployed 3 weeks later and spent time overseas. I was promoted 4 times and ended my 4 year term as a 22 year old sergeant, which got me my first entry level job at a grocery store. Went from a clerk to an assistant manager in 2 years at a Kroger store that had 200+ employees. Got recruited by a family owned restaurant/lodge in Nashville that does live music on weekends and is a pretty busy business.

I always had interest in being a video game developer, and had a lot of artistic ability, so I was a self taught graphic designer and skilled photoshop user. The owner of this new job also owns a country music record label and realized my skills from making signs and advertisements from the restaurant and lodge business. I went on to do more work for the label, designing albums and making music posters. I now work for that record label specifically, doing just that, designing posters, albums, doing work for a couple of reputable artists, making good money. I own my home on 5 acres, it's all paid off, and i'm 36 years old. My car is paid for, my bills are strictly utilities and groceries, and I make close to a 6 figure salary with no college education.
