I usually put on about 5 pounds here in the winter because the winter's fucking brutal and it's harder to get exercise than in the other seasons, and even that feels bad. How the fuck do people let themselves get so out of shape?

I think its more of a mental thing. With things like depression often comes a complete lack of motivation so things like lazing around and binge eating can happen.

I was 155 when i finished high school. I could run 10k then. I am 33 now and at 215.

I was very active as a teen. In college, my activity level dropped. Lots of beer and za. In grad school, my diet and activity level and self esteem dropped and lots of new stress.

After grad school, work started. Long hours. I live alone and cooking for one sucks. I eat takeout alot.

By the time I get home, and makr time for reading, socializing, traveling, and vidya, there is no time for exercise.

That's fucking sad dude. I'm 30 and can still run 10k. Because I didn't let myself become fat and out of shape.

I usually weigh about 175 lbs. 3 years ago I broke my shoulder went up to 220 lbs in about 4 months. Super burritos are one hell of a bulk food

But I'm back to about 175 again these days, never getting fat again.

I'm wondering if the average American's physical peak was during mandatory P.E.?

which is lame because most guys have a potential to peak around 25, assuming they were active.

because once you finish college, you work 8+ hours a day and that is extremely draining for a lot of people so they don't have the energy to take care of themselves when it's just easier to swing by Arby's for dinner on the way home than it is to spend an hour cooking a healthy meal and then another hour at the gym

typing this out just convinced me to go for a run in the apartment workout room (because i do stop at arbys' occasionally hahahha lmfao)

Really? That's fucking lazy. You can't find ONE activity you can do for a few hours a week? Can't go for a walk? Can't even go to the gym and go on the treadmill for a bit? Fucking lazy man.

The good news is I don't care much. I know it is an issue related to priorities. I have not gained weight in like a year or two. I am cool with my gut. I like my lifestyle and a little gut is a small price to pay for it.

I'm at 165 again after being at 173 for a while. I wish I was still my teenage weight of 150 though.
I'm not fat but I am damn out of shape. Even walking a few hours of walking like I did a Knott's last week is enough to get me tired.

And then here's something else. Getting on some of those coasters. I've done it all my life. When I weighed less and when I weighed more. The only thing that really has changed is now I'm 35. And for the very first time I was on one I had been on many times before. And I felt like I couldn't catch my breath mid ride. In the loops a bit of that lightheadedness like if you sit up too fast. Or that weird sensation like your heart skips a beat and you take a deeper breath when you walk into a different room sometimes. Like a pressure change or something. That one is weird I know but my brothers have that too.
I'm honestly wondering now. Can I not take these things as easily anymore? Good god am I getting too old now? Yikes.

idk, whenever my pants start to feel a little tight around the waist I know it's time to back off on the food. Like, don't know how people decide instead "fuck all these clothes I have, I'm just going to be fat and buy pants 4 sizes bigger and XXL shirts"

I agree it's just laziness and excuses. Even for people who work a lot or whatever, you mean to tell me that you can't prep meals once a week or find even 20 min a day to do some quick exercise? I bet you can find that time for Facebook, video games, etc.

I think if I had to choose between being physically able and quick witted into my 70's/80's/90's and dying in my 50's (which neglecting diet and exercise is ultimately going to lead you), I'd be putting down the Facebook and shit and start making a little effort. It gets easier the more you do it.
