I played FF9 for like, the 4th time last summer, and it was such a better experience for me being able to just set the game to like, 10x the regular speed. Journey's on the overworld took seconds, some battles were over in the blink of an eye, it allowed me the ability to power level abilities much faster, etc. etc.

I can't really think of any negative to allowing that option on all RPG's. I mean, why not?

the negative is it makes people realize how short the game really is :p

yeah it would be a nice thing to have although 10x feels like you're reaching the border of impossible to control

Was gonna say how much better it made ff9 on ps4 lol. Ff12 too.

Makes you extra aware of how much of RPGs is just walking from A to B

i've always thought it a design problem when people need a speed up feature for the sake of convenience since it implies the pacing of the content isn't interesting enough for people to stick around for.

as i've gotten older with less patience, pacing in particular is definitely one of the worst problems of RPGs but especially JRPGs with their slow-ass exposition and grindy nature of combat.

it's one of the "best" features of the FF12 remaster(which probably added to the score) and here we are ITT with another JRPG.

i mean when i was playing say witcher 3 never once did i ask for the game to be sped up since traveling was fast on foot/horse and with tons of waypoints, there wasn't any real grind(that i didn't ask for) and the game moved at a brisk enough pace if i beelined it between objectives.

so yeah, definitely a design problem if a game beckons for a speed up feature.

Yes. It means the games slow boring and grindy and this helps.

Really, RPGs need an option where every animation can be cut, skipped, or sped up. I never play pokemon with battle animations on, and I really wish other series would drop them, too
