I heard they changed up the combat so it isnt just square and triangle spam with circle from time to time.

Also how is the weapons and items system this time around?

it's pretty eh. Basically instead of square triangle combos, you push r1+ face button. These always perform the same type of attack. so R1+Triangle is always a popup, x is always a knockdown, sqaure a stun, O is a special on a timer (not mosou attack). This makes everyone feel the same, where as before 1 characters square square triangle might be a big aoe clear, anothers might be a popup, another might be a good officer killer. It made each hero feel unique even if you were just pushing the same buttons.

A lot of the unique weapons were removed...even cao ren lost his shield for example. But i haven't been rushing characters to really experience the variety, so far i've just been Sun Jian, SSX, and Lian Tits err shi.

you can glance through the topic i made at release, at probably 20 hours (maybe 2 or 3 being afk time), it's by far the worse main number DW. If you really love DW and you really love the story, i think there's enough there you could enjoy playing through 1 or 2 kingdoms stories, but i can't see this being like most of the other releases save 6, where i could spend hundreds of hours playing.

7*, 1 was a side scrolling fighter it's why the japanese numbering is different.

their a guilty pleasure of mine...but then they stopped doing english VAs for non maintitles...and now the english VA is bad, not like comically bad like previous DW , but just distractingly takes you out of the game bad.

Same. Theres just something super satisfying and therapeutic about massacring millions of soldiers in a few combos. Plus I love the three kingdoms era/story and like seeing the small little variations and additions they do from title to title.

As Toast said, it's a guilty pleasure for me too. I never really go in expecting a whole lot except something I don't need to think too much about, but 9 is just not very interesting to me. I liked what little I played of 6 more than this.

yes, 6 was shallow, clones, and a tiny roster that made it bad. But it still had good gameplay(for the series). Unlike I'm expecting with 9, i still played through each kingdoms story in 6, but never bothered with free mode (which some characters could only be played in).
