It may sound ridiculous, but if corporations can have personhood, what about the land and the trees? I came across this article in my college web site about a group of people called the Community Enviromental Legal Defense Fund that is trying to amend the laws to grant the land itself personhood so it can legally fight fracking and other pollutants damaging wells and other underground elements.

Well when you consider that humans (as a whole) only do harm to the planet...some things should be in place to protect certain things. Whether it be land, forests, animals, bodies of water etc.
