Worst seems pretty common for every community, but when I was part of The Phantasy Star Universe community on xbox live, it was pretty great. Everyone was always helping each other out, giving away free rare weapons, and there was a pretty even 50/ 50 split between men and women which helped a lot.

FFXI.

It isn't close in the slightest.

FFXIV is still a nice community but the addition of auto-formed parties and solo play leaves people a lot more disconnected than in XI.

it actually happens online a surprisingly frequent amount of times for me in like random "fav character design" or "sequels you wish could happen" threads on other sites

Smash 4 and it isn't even close, though in fairness I wouldn't say the competition is that strong. (I wouldn't consider myself "part of the community" even for most games that I like.) Second best is probably Trails which is all right, but there's some parts of even that community that I really don't like.

For the record I am not counting board 8 as a gaming community for the purposes of this question.

Honestly none. I can't think of a good gaming community.

The only nerd community I've been a part of that I actually liked was LOST. And I guess a long time ago Wheel of Time and A Song of Ice and Fire fandoms provided good entertainment.

I am still very good friends with people from XI and our Linkshell ended up with 6 marriages and 5 kids that I can think of off the top of my head but it's probably more than that. Only one of those marriages didn't work out in the end (was actually my own) but we still were together for 10 years and married for 7 and are still good friends now (just fell out of love with each other).

We also have had an annual meet-up every year for the last 9 years. We always get people flying in from pretty far away to be there. The meet-up is in England and last year we had 3 people flying over from the US (including myself), 1 guy from Australia and multiple from Europe to be there.

It's a small fandom, but most of us are basically on the same page, and even the ones that aren't are not treated like pariahs for it. The content creators are celebrated without being idolized, and the consumers are pretty supportive.

I was pretty active in the Life is Strange community between Episode Three and Episode Five. Everyone was really nice, just sharing fanart and theorizing and talking about what the game meant to them... it was great
