If anyone could interview/study him and that research lead to the decreasing of future incidents, I'd be okay with him having a few years knocked off his sentence.

While I would love for this to happen I doubt it would when two of the most obvious solutions, background checks for gun control and monitoring him when people had reported his desire to murder people very far in advance, are being completely ignored the by the senate and congress.
