If you have several powers, eye lasers are a cool addition. But if you only have lasers as your powers, they should be fired from your hands. It's just awkward to have a character with eye lasers as his only power. It'd be like if you had a character with Superman's super breath as their only power.

Honestly, he's not even a good leader. He freaks out anytime anyone questions him and has a habit of getting teammates killed and throwing tantrums if anyone rivals his undisputed leadership. I feel like he's a relic from a different era of comics and nowadays he ends up coming up as a brash idiot due to him not changing tone much.

Oddly enough, his eye beams aren't actually lasers. They don't "burn", but they are more of a forceful energy.

I read somewhere that the beams don't even come from his eyes. His eyes are actually a portal to another dimension, and his eyes are just a doorway for the energy to be expelled.

I believe that was the explanation for a short period of time in the 80s. I'm pretty sure they changed it cuz it was kinda dumb. Now he absorbs solar energy. Which is also kinda lame.

Punches from the punch dimension is still canon. It's basically the reasoning for why Cyclops can rip a Sentinel in half without class 100 neck muscles holding his head on. It's also a perfect example for why we don't always need to try and explain comic book superpowers with real life science.

There was a science teacher I remember who taught physics to his students using superheroes. They get a one miracle rule and then the class has to explain the rest. They explained how the Invisible Woman would be blind while invisible because her cells allow light to pass through them. Her eyes kind of need light to see, though. Therefore, blind.
