MM seems so overrated by the internet. Like, it's the edgy version of Zelda that is OK to like now.

Not that I'm a huge fan of OOT, but it clearly was the better game.

I love Majoras Mask to death, but OoT is definitely stronger overall. MM totally has something going on that has never been recreated, though.

Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda. Stone Tower Temple is my favorite dungeon in the series, I loved the darker tone, and it's the only Zelda game I've played besides Link's Awakening where I actually felt motivated to do all the sidequests - the Bomber's Notebook made it a lot more manageable. It's also one of the few games I've played where I got legitimately captivated by the lore & spent a good hour reading into it online; I remember being particularly interested in the backstory of the butler's son, and how/why Termina was basically a doomed society. The fact that the main villain (or at least the catalyst for the main villain) was a random-ish NPC from from Ocarina of Time was kinda cool, too.

Oh yeah, I also like its visual style a lot; I think the N64 Zeldas had the best aesthetic for 3D Zelda, and MM is (obviously) the better-looking one of the two.

Maybe between 2010-2015, but once MM3D finally came out & the hype died down, I've seen more posts like yours & this one:

Meh, gotta give the edge to OoT. I love how inventive MM is, and certain elements put it over OoT, but too many of MM's features (omnipresent countdown timer, 50% of the dungeons being bland as hell, Goron rolling) drag it down for me personally.

These are all fair criticisms. I'm in the minority of people who actually kind of liked the Great Bay Temple, but I don't think many people will disagree when I say that Woodfall Temple is the most forgettable main dungeon from the N64 Zeldas... well maybe besides Dodongo's Cavern. If we're being real here, I actually had to Google the dungeons in Majora's Mask because I forgot what Woodfall Temple was called.

I always found Snowhead Temple to be a very underrated dungeon, though; probably in my top five dungeons from OoT/MM.

@Gafemage tbh I'd lumped Snowhead into the bad dungeons, but my opinion would be softened considerably if Goron rolling was out of the equation. I realize it's not a widely shared opinion, but good golly gosh Goron rolling might be my most all-time hated gaming mechanic. I literally spent five straight infuriating hours trying to get through the rolling segment of the final dungeon on my first playthrough. Hell, I haven't actually made it to Great Bay Temple in fifteen years because Snowhead segments and the abysmal Goron racing (which incidentally makes Mario Kart's rubber band AI seem positively fair and realistic by comparison) killed my interest in progressing further. So in that regard, I couldn't give an accurate critique of Great Bay simply because I can't remember it very well (Stone Tower though was memorable enough to remain a top-tier dungeon, the cherry on top being that it marked the return of my favorite franchise enemy, Eyegore.)

But that aside, the game's countdown timer is a very cool concept, and objectively, it works well for this game. But as someone for whom BotW was a literal dream game, it kills the freedom and enjoyment of world exploration when you constantly have that falling moon breathing down your neck.

OoT has better dungeon design and has more gameplay but to this day I still love the atmosphere they created in MM. It's so surreal and perfectly well made. Not sure how they did it or if they could ever make a zelda like it again. There was just something magical to it.

Well...duh. But TC set the parameters for the poll and I am honor-bound to respect them, no matter my feelings on OoT (those feelings being that it was a great and highly enjoyable game in its own right, but took the series in a very divergent and woefully restrictive direction that was almost miraculously righted by BotW).

because it was done in a year in the case of MM. In BotW it's because shrines compensate for them (supposedly).
