We got into an argument (the first time I've ever seriously argued with him) about a week or so ago where he accused me of bitching about my life but apparently never doing anything to change it up. Like, I have him on Steam, launched FFXIV, and not even 30 seconds later he messaged me basically telling me that I'll never improve doing the same things over and over. We took it to Messenger and that's when he told me that I bitch about my life but don't do anything about it. I told him that that's just what it appears like to him and that he has no idea what I do to try and improve myself.

He also frequently tells me that the reason I don't care for certain types of games is that I lack exposure. Like, most western games I don't care for, especially if there aren't any fantasy elements. I can explain to him my reasoning on things as much as possible, he'll pick it apart, pretty much all but call my reasons dumb, then go on to explain why what he's saying is absolute even if it's just a subjective thing. One of the most stubborn people I've ever met and although he has helped me a lot in the past, and even helped me grow socially to an extent, I feel a friction forming in our friendship. He seems to be getting annoyed at me more often and honestly makes me feel like I'm stupid most of the time, even if it's not intentional.

It's a complicated thing because I don't actually want to stop talking to him, but I definitely feel less compelled to open up to him about my life after that argument we went through. I feel like he's not a very understanding person in general and not very open-minded. It's frustrating.

Sounds like you need to grow a pair.

There's more to it than what I've said. What good can come from arguing with people who aren't willing to actually change their minds? He can be really frustrating to deal with because he doesn't attempt to listen.

I'm mostly into anything fantasy, not strictly Japanese stuff. Can also include stuff like Dragon Age, LOTR, Game of Thrones etc

My bad; depends on what game it is. Like let's use CoD as an example; I don't feel as immersed in a super realistic game like that

lol that would require me to be gay.

I put up with it because he HAS helped me a lot and I don't think he's a bad person, but I feel like we're both starting to lose our patience.
