The game's sort of on rails in that you are perpetually moving forward. You can break if you want, but you don't have complete freedom of movement. I mean, you do and you don't. The game takes place on various racing tracks, and it feels like you're gliding on ice. There's also a combat aspect that demands you fight enemies from behind while facing the opposite direction in which you're currently moving.
