I dont know much. Advice is appreciated.

I have been using the provided router from my internet provider. It has been acceptable. Sometimes in my room it loses connection To the Wii I watch Netflix on, I usually blame it on the Wii, but recently my internet and cable went out for about 16 hours. Not sure why, and it just fixed itself.

But its been noticeably slower since then, and Netflix is super shit in my room. I was thinking about buying a new router.

Will this help the internet speed in my room? My whole house? Does the modem affect that?

Thank you

It could just be your internet provider. I'd definitely call them and try to get it sorted out that way first.

I had an appointment when my shit went out but when it fixed itself I cancelled it

Of course! That's what happened to mine a few times. Also there was times I'd call them saying something is wrong and it keeps dying at random times and they'd be all "yeah well it seems ok now so there's nothing we can do!"
Luckily (after months) they finally did figure out what was wrong and fixed it.

You should call 'em up to see why it's so slow now. Maybe they can fix it on their end w/o them coming out?

It could be the network I your area is clogged.

The WiFi antenna could be burning out on either end.

Resetting and updating your firmware are the first easy fixes.

Go to your routers homepage and set up or change the log on if you haven't already. Check the client list to make sure no one is leeching off you.

Some routers have priority settings for gaming or streaming. Setting that up could help if you want to watch Netflix but your toaster is hogging all the bandwidth.
