I once bought a full 1992 Impel X-Men trading card set, but the seller only sent some of the cards. When I complained, he sent a whole bunch of additional X-Men cards from that time but not all from the exact 1992 Impel set.

I bought a Nintendo 64 game complete in box,

But when I received it, the game was in the box surrounded by little styrofoam noodle-looking things. No cardboard insert.

I bought a lot of like 150 rare yugioh cards from a dude when I was 10 and they never showed up

I didnt trust ebay after that until I was an adult lol

oh and I bought a 980Ti(w/o a cooler) for $225 from a guy in 2016 and it turned out to be a 780Ti. But the guy selling it had no idea what the difference was and probably got duped in the first place but he still refunded me all but like $50. So that turned from a huge swindle against me to me getting a killer deal lol.

had a guy try to. bought a Pontiac 400 engine that was supposed to be in reworked, good running condition with some go-fast bits. came with broken connecting rods and the heads were a mess. took it to a shop to have them quote what it would cost to get it to the condition the listing promised, guy ended up refunding like $2200 of the $2400 I paid for the engine. Shop only ended up charging me like $900 for the actual work so I got a quality engine for $1100 and a bit of a hassle and the guy who tried to screw me lost his engine and probably $300 because shipping a 450 pound engine is expensive.

Yes. Bought a playset of Thrun the Last Troll that never shipped. Communication was nonexistent. Fortunately ebay will refund you for items you never received and take it upon themselves to punish scammers.

it's a common scam to send something that isn't what the order was. seen many things being inside the box (boxes of rocks are very common) haven't had anything severely bad maybe once getting an item that wasn't as described (they sent me garfield and friends set 1 that didn't contain vol 2 disc).

Basically they hold the money until after the item has been delivered to the buyer. From what I remember, the quickest a new seller can actually get the funds is 3 days after its been confirmed delivered. It can be quite longer if you don't do the stuff that they want you to do (ship with tracking and whatnot). They also take a percentage of the sale, as does PayPal if you use it, although I'm not sure what the fees are anymore (eBay was around 10-14 percent IIRC).
