"Middle Earth" refers to Lord of the Rings or Hobbit Trilogy, but I didn't know what else to call it.

Sunday night topic dump is how I "plant the seeds," so to speak, of having something to post about tomorrow to kill time at work, as opposed to burning through my two notifications by 9:02 and being bored. The intent is to post a topic and not come back to read/respond until tomorrow.

I consider the LotR trilogy one long movie. Probably FotR and then RotK though.

it isn't, though.

one of the flaws of the series is that RoTK was literally the only one with a satisfying conclusion.

because it had three.

IIRC Tolkien treated LotR as one giant story, and it's split into three books more for convenience than anything. That's why the first two films don't have strong conclusions - you don't conclude a story at the 1/3 and 2/3 points.

This is LinksLiege's signature. It is fantastic.

i agree with you and i think you are correct about the causes/drivers of the films' somewhat abrupt endings

to their credit they don't waste a ton of time getting started again either

but it means i will never sit down and say "Man, I want to watch fellowship today. JUST fellowship."

I like all of them. I can't watch one and not the other, just doesn't work.

That being said, 1 and 3 have the best moments. 2 is still fucking awesome, it's just like the difference between a 10 and a 9.9 or a 9.8.

I am curious, why did people hate this? I never actually saw BoFA, but I also know that more die-hard fans of LotR/Hobbit than me really didn't like anything about The Hobbit movies.

I only watched the first one (all the way through) and found it very boring. Did it ever get better?
