i think it's the whole thing that despite being the most homogeneous nation on Earth they seem to be doing great while the diverse America is quickly going to shit.

well i guess the koreas might top japan in homogeneity but being a koreaboo isn't as easy. same thing though, super successful nations (referring to SK) despite diversity not being anywhere close to being one of their issues

There's a lot to it, but it can be boiled down to there being a large crossover in 'geek' hobbies and the alt-right AND SJWs because those hobbies were traditionally considered for weirdos and outcasts. The older those people into the hobbies grew, the more their interest grew in politics.

And that is the key word. They have suffered a lot of problems just like any other country. It's just that the distance makes people imagine some sort of exotic utopia.

I'd actually be curious to see some research done on it. From my very limited experience, I think it's true. It may have something to do with the types of stories, with perceptions of Japan, with the demographic the works are targetted at, with Japan's racial politics, with Japanese involvement in WWII, or any combination of those. It may also be something more simple, as suggested, in that it appeals to outsiders, which until recently the alt-right very much were.

It is baffling TC, I agree. Although Im pretty weebish and as far as I know Im not alt right.

the only problems they have are cultural ones like the suicide issue and birth rate issue, which are both overblown comparatively given that most western nations have similar numbers. japan and SK are both extremely technologically successful, socially stable, economically sound, culturally rich, and happen to be the two most homogeneous nation on Earth.

the US is technologically successful and that's about it, but at least we're diverse
