Cheating as in, Gameshark and stuff or just cheesing them with lucky 7s?

Either way, I beat Ruby legit, but never beat Emerald.

Without cheating? Yes.

Without cheesing? I want to say I managed Ruby Weapon once without that Dazer trick and any other tricks I don't remember, but I'm not sure.

They're the easiest "super" bosses any RPG has ever had. Just use Knights of the Round

I beat Emerald by Mime-spamming Knights of the Round, and using 7777, x.x

Beat Emerald, have never beaten Ruby.

I think i got a bit sick of it after my sixth or seventh attempt, moved on with the game and just never got back to trying again.

Last time I beat Emerald I think I used a combination of KotR and Yuffie's Conformer. For Ruby I think I double casted Hades and KotR with mime over and over.

Yes, KotR-Mime + Final Attack-Phoenix won the day in both cases. I believe it was Aegis Armlets that gave everyone the magic evade necessary to work around Ruby's Ultima counter.

I beat both of them and I wasnt really good at FF mechanics at the time. I must not have done anything particularly clever to beat them.

Define "cheating". If KOTR / etc count as cheating, then I don't think I actually have. If you only mean literally gamesharking / save hacking, then yes, I have.

It's Mystile, not Aegis Armlet. Or it might have been "both, but Mystile is even better" - I do remember there being another one that was almost as good.

And no, it's not the magic evade, it's the magic defence that's bugged.

Yes. Very first time I beat them. The only thing I did that could be considered cheating was have everyone but Cloud dead going into the Ruby fight.

The fight is supposed to be done solo, achieved by Ruby being invincible in the fight until two members have been removed from the fight by his special attack. But starting the battle with both characters already dead means he becomes not invincible, and then you can return the two characters back to life and have a full team.

Ruby can be beaten pretty easily without KotR if you know how the fight works. Its just long. Then I grab the chocobo reward for beating Ruby, get KotR, and beat Emerald with that.

Ruby is just solo-Cloud, resist fire, buff youself, Omnislash tentacles and then just spam your strongest spell on his body. Repeat.

I beat both on the PC version, without Final Attack either. The lucky 7s doesn't actually kill them as I once got my hp to that while healing on the field map so I tried it and they survive. I used HP Absorb -> Knights of the Round while going after Ruby Weapon and then Mime so basically I would fully heal my HP each time I could use Mime.

Mystile definitely sounds familiar, but I can't remember for sure. Whichever one gave you something like 60% magic evade. I think you could only get two of them, so Aegis Armlet went on the 3rd member.
