No
I don't like strangers talking to me, but i want to live like right on top of them. I also like being able to walk to most places I need within 10 minutes yet driving there anyway.

It's complicated being city folk, but it's who I am.

As a suburbanite ideally I could live much more comfortably in a rural place than in the city, but realistically it just doesn't work out. The internet sucks there and that is essential for 90% of my free time, as well as having to drive more than an hour per trip to work and back.

I'm sort of a hybrid and have done both, so certain things amuse me about both city folk and town/country folk.

City Folk tend to have better things to talk about, but they never want to talk to you and everyone sort of lives in a default state of suspicion and weariness. But there is at least a sense that people are doing things with their lives and you can go out and see interesting stuff at any time.

Country folk tell you the same shit stories every day in the pub, but at least everyone is friendly and willing to help out with small things. For example, I mentioned to a guy that worked at the butchers that I was going to put together some pulled pork sliders and the next day he just turned up at my doorstep with a 4lb bone-in pork shoulder. That never happens in the city.

There was an anecdote on QI that explains the difference perfectly. A guy and his city friend were doing a roadtrip around the UK and stopped off at Hadrians wall (country area). They passed someone else at the location and the country guy (the one telling the story here) said "hello" and the stranger said hello back. Then after they walked away city guy asks "did you know that guy?"

Overall I prefer the city but there are some things I certainly miss. Space, and peace, and a sense of familiarity and belonging is all very much a town thing.

Coming from being born and raised in NYC, yes and I have in Upstate NY, Nassau and Suffolk.

It was a really nice change of pace. The nights felt fucking orgasmic.

But I always missed NYC, despite loving those places. I couldn't go 2-3 weeks without being back in the city before I'd kind of go a bit crazy. While family and friends was a big thing, the city is just a part of me and I needed to be back there.
