So I use money orders for rent because I moved and have always been too lazy to order checks, along with the fact that my apartment somehow doesn't have an online portal.

I distinctly remember the dude asking me to swipe my card twice because the money order machine was obviously being difficult.

But I called the office and they said I should be able to get a refund, as long as I show my bank statement. But he asked for the dude I worked with and if I hadn't remembered it was the black guy (which I had to say over the phone, that was embarrassing), but still, until the refund actually hits my bank account I'm gonna be on edge

Also caused a mini-freakout because it withdrew $600 from my same bank credit card which I never use anymore (in order to cover the overdraft), and that showed up as like "VSA CASH ADVANCE" or some shit, so I thought my card was compromised, but at least that isn't the case.

Guess I'm getting checks now

I thought about it but the line was long (as always) because the post office is incompetent courtesy of un-fireable federal workers and I didn't want to cause a delay (especially because I didn't think it actually processed anyways).

My bank also is supposed to straight up decline the transaction as a result of insufficient balance, and I know for a fact I didn't have $1.6k floating around in there, so I dunno why it was allowed to go through twice.

Did you get the canceled first receipt? always ask for that too. If your card was swiped twice, make them prove it didnt go through.

It didn't even print a receipt the first time. Guy on the phone asked if I had both receipts, said I just got one, but said it should be fine as long as I show my transactions, which I've got.

Ugh they couldn't just refund the card so they just gave me an equal value money order (after literally an hour of standing there and then also having to go back to my apartment to get the receipt, which thank god I didn't pitch or I'd be fucked) which means I have to do the camera-deposit since my bank doesn't have a branch here

Which means I probably won't have it until next week since those deposits don't typically process over the weekend

at least you got refunded, though can agree that this is horribly bad timing due to the weekend, banks should be open 7 days a week FML.

at least you got refunded, though can agree that this is horribly bad timing due to the weekend.

My bank says I can use camera for checks only... Well, last time I checked. It said I couldn't do money orders. That being said, I could probably do it and they would accept it, but I'd rather not try. Maybe I'll call to see if they changed the rules recently or something like that...

I pay with money orders, too. Sometimes checks when I have the amount in the account. And cash, every once in a while... I get receipts either way... I actually kinda of like money orders a little more...

I do too because the money is gone from the account right away, as opposed to writing a check and maybe not losing the money for a few days.

Con is, fuck the post office. I ordered checks today when I was driving back to my apartment to get the receipt that I needed for a refund.

I would have done it myself, but I had to have her do it because my bank is way to far to drive to...

I like doing the post office because I can get an envelope there too. Maybe I'm paranoid but I don't feel secure dropping a tiny little sheet of paper in the dropbox without some sort of cover.

Yeah I sometimes get back from work after the office closes so I just drop it in the box, but they're so tiny I worry a small gust of wind from the front door might blow it out somehow

reminds me of the time I was auditing, and they had processed a refund to correct a double charge. for some reason it kept being off by the refund amount (probably twice the amount but this was a long time ago), and I couldn't figure out why. eventually I realized that the "refund" had been processed simultaneously as a void and a refund, so it double negated itself, and instead of returning one charge to the customer, it was effectively a third charge.

My mom asked if they could do cash, then. They said no. My mom went off on them. Called them all kinds of names. My younger siblings were there. They were embassrassed. She called the bank to have them stop one of the payments. She got her money back. We aren't poor. But we also don't have enough money to be double charged...

One knew how, but wouldn't. And they also wouldn't just give cash back. It's weird they wouldn't give her the money back in any form. They said she would have to go through her bank to get it back. When they could have done it multiple ways. I think that was really why my mom was mad... And J can understand that. If I knew they didn't know, I would have been disappointed. But when I know one of them knows how, that's when K become angry...

I went back to the post office and showed them the double-charge on my bank app. Wasn't enough, I needed the receipt as well (not sure if he meant the printed receipt or the top half of the money order), so I had to go back to my apartment and was #blessed that I didn't throw any of that shit away, or I'd've been right-well-fucked.
