Did you know part of the story in the original Final Fantasy is directly taken from Laputa? The whole thing about the robot falling from the flying castle in the sky that used to be inhabited by an ancient civilization thing.

Yeah

And speaking of another of Miyazaki's movies:

In Spain, Kiki was renamed "Nicky" because in Castilian Spanish the phonetically similar "quiqui" is commonly used in the slang expression "echar un quiqui", which means "to have intercourse". The film was re-titled Nicky la aprendiz de bruja (Nicky the Apprentice Witch).

Miyazaki seems to have issues with spanish

I think Japanese and Spanish just have problems in general.

I knew so many people with the last name "Baca" growing up.

Pronounced exactly like "baka," which is Japanese for "idiot."

Oh that's quite interesting lol. I knew about the expression (even though I speak Dominican Spanish, not Castillian) because of one of Shakira's songs (Loca) but it wasn't until right now that I knew what quiqu/kik meant.

Apparently the slang definition of quiqui itself comes from "quickie" in English :P

Well to be fair, vaca means cow in Spanish (and in /most/ variations of Latin American Spanish the sounds for V and B are exactly the same) so people would laugh at anyone with "Baca" as their last name, at least a little bit.

I'm sure Jonathan Swift knew when he wrote Gulliver's Travels.
