Current Events > I started playing Rise of the Tomb Raider recently

it's alright so far. feels like the kind of game that is really cool looking to people who haven't played many video games before because it's very cinematic and has lots of side things to do that sound incredible on paper but ultimately amount to walking over to bushes and pressing X to make a counter go up.

story is kind of lame and the shooting is pretty dull. guns sound terrible. I wish the devs had given Lara a buddy to walk around with because Lara constantly talks to herself and it's weird. challenge tombs are pretty fun though, and I like looking around for secrets. great graphics too on my One X.

I played the first one from 2013, and yeah it's basically a movie with very little actual gameplay beyond QTEs. Whenever i say I didn't like it, my friends and the nerds on gamefaqs all say I'm crazy/dumb.

It's a fun game, but yeah, the plot and dialogue aren't really amazing. Even TR1 had more memorable repartees, which is pretty damn astonishing. If you're going to play, do it for the gameplay, exploration, and shooting bears in the face.

lol no it isn't, this is such an exaggeration. I picked it up cheap on a Steam sale and played it for the first time recently. I expected tons of QTEs but there's really not that much.

Rise has very few QTEs thankfully

Still wrong too IMO. Game has pretty good combat and even some exploration, it was pretty fun finding the little objectives hidden in each level.

Same. I was expecting something inundated with them with how much people claim it is nothing but them and was very pleasantly surprised with what I got.

I enjoyed what I played of it, eventually dropped it in favor of other games. I agree that the story is crap...didn't really care for it.

I didn't really like it. I loved when the game gave you a semi-open area and told you to go nuts stealth killing all the bad guys but those moments were few and far between. The "cinematic" on rails sections were mind numbingly boring and the rest of the game was just walking around.

This is the next game I want to buy. I really enjoyed Tomb Raider (never played one before). In fact I was even playing it last night. Now that I have an Xbox1 I think its time to buy RotTR. Does it still have similar skill points and weapon upgrading as TR? That's the addictive part to me. Or at least the motivation to explore more.
