In your opinion?

There seems to be a strong divide on this.

Some people believe wearing your flaws, admitting fault and improving shows strength of character and the ability to grow.

Others believe that the strong don't make mistakes or at least don't admit to them and that by apologizing you're saying you have failed.

What do you think CE?

it's the opposite, because only weak people can't admit they're wrong in the face of contrary evidence

There's a difference between apologizing and admitting you're wrong though.

Yes and no. Some people are too quick to apologize and play martyr without realizing how much it reflects poorly on them. In say a work situation where multiple people are responsible and you fess up to be the bigger man, chances are you're just going to get burned. Learned this the hard way.

At the same time, you'll lose respect for never being wrong, even if it makes people fearful of you in the short term.

It depends what you are apologizing about...
If they are serious matters or mistakes that you are owning up to, it's a sign of strength if anything.

On the other hand if you are someone who is CONSTANTLY apologizing for everything that's definitely a sign of weakness.

Yeah. I guess most the time I just admit being wrong without apologizing. My sister over apologizes at times and I had to tell her it makes me look like Im being an asshole when she apologizes over small things. It makes it look like I think it's a bigger deal than it actually is

I see apologizing as an easy way out of confrontations. Nothing wrong with that.

I agree apologizing excessively and over little things can make you look like a little bitch. I just mean apologizing when you fuck up is not weak

This exact situation occurred to a dude at my job a few weeks ago. Got his ass lit up by the regional manager despite his honesty. No fucks given.

It depends on the situation. A lot of apologizing is societal imo. It serves a purpose there. Apparently the British do it a lot.

I literally got fired for this. Thought that taking the heat and being the big guy who could fess up to his wrongs and learn to be better despite problems in the system would be the right thing to do, show initiative and credibility, etc. Instead I just got fired and they never addressed the systematic errors that made my job impossible in the first place.

Unfortunately, in the corporate world you have to pass the buck because the person sitting next to you really does not give a fuck about your life just because they offer to get you a coffee every morning.

Incredibly weak when you apologize when you didn't do anything wrong/apologizing for someone else's mistake, but strong when you apologize when you did do something wrong.

This is basically what I was trying to say but simpler

The hard part is figuring out when it's really your fault or not

Generally no
