Updates are the worst thing to ever happen to consoles. They basically say "if you wanna access the online store, you must download these files that do nothing to actually improve your console, just attempt to prevent others from hacking it"

I just wanna download a game and play. You're stopping me from giving you money because other people don't want to give you money for your games.

I honestly have no clue why the eshop doesn't work on older firmwares - I want to buy Stardew Valley on my Switch yet I can't do that because I have to go out of my way to update the console which is too much effort for me.

I didn't know the Gameboy had an online store. It must have for this comparison to make any sense.

If pressing a button or 2 to do an update is too much effort for you, you may wanna rethink some aspects of your life.

At worst it's a mild inconvenience. A lot of the updates are there for your protection, so your system is less likely to get hacked and your credit card info stolen.

Can't steal my credit card info if I don't put my credit card in the system ;)

Can buy things using gift cards

How does buying GBC games from the 3DS eshop and transferring them to my GBC via computer magic equal a problem?

People transferring games to systems using "computer magic" is the reason anti-hacking measures exist. Is that not what this topic is about?

People downloading games for free is a problem. That has never been my intention.

This is why I complained about not being able to access the eshop on my not updated Switch - I want to pay them money for a game without ruining the potential of my console

It's not actually about protecting you, it's about making gamesharks and the like worthless

Which is another complaint I have. Ingame cheats used to be so fun. Some were built into the games themselves with button combinations, other ones required gamesharks. But even those were fun. I remember fucking around with Pokemon GSC and putting on multiple encounter codes at once, so I'd get something like a Sneasel with Ho-Oh's color pallete and Pidgey's moveset.

But the introduction of achievements basically killed cheating in single player games
