TIL that the forbidden fruit in the Bible was not an apple. It only became known as an apple when the bible was translated into Latin in the 4th century, because the word "Malus" means both apple and evil.
20K+ upvotes, front page on Reddit. Yeah, the book has been around for thousands of years. Billions of people have read it. This is not new information. It's in the first chapter. It also bothers me that people think the tree is tree of knowledge. It's the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God wasn't suppressing knowledge. It was moral knowledge, aka the awareness of evil (and subsequently goodness as its opposite) that he forbid.
