I honestly find this shocking.

I never buy pre-sale tickets and honestly I don't think it looks that good. (but I said the same about Guardians and after loving it swore never to doubt marvel again)

I just can't believe it would out sell the avengers movies. Most marvel movies felt like big movies but those felt like a movie experience. The kind of shit people lined up for and talked about for weeks even if they weren't the best movies.

did you not see Civil War?

Black Panther is the king of Wakanda, a fictional African nation that exists in Marvel. It's super advanced and ancient. and the royal family has a family line of super heroes named the Black Panther. it passed down through the generations, usually is the current king. He is kinda like Batman sortof but cat instead of bat.

I dont see a need to pre order tickets but then the theater here is not packed the days I go, rather have a small crowd when seeing a movie not a packed theater.

Its great that people are really excited and looking forward to Black Panther though.

Not surprised.

Black people turn up to the theaters for movies featuring black people, and this has been getting buzz since Summer '16.

If you're an MCU fan, this is the final set up chapter for Infinity War. You must see it.

It's doing that Deadpool thing of dropping a summer blockbuster in a month where the only other big thing happening in movie journalism is the next Fifty Shades movie.

It is hard to relate to black panther. It has nothing to do with him back ground. blade (Wesley snipes) was EASY to relate. Nick fury was EASY to relate. Will Smith in I am Legend and ID4? EASY to relate.

But this guys character is like look I speak with a fictional African accent and most of my crew are African and were all about our culture and the movie revolves around our fictional African country culture. Yesh.

If captain America spoke with a southern drawl and couldnt shut up about country music, pick up trucks, and eating at Cracker Barrel, and all of his supporting characters were country bumpkins I would dislike him too.

Because a concert is one night in your town

A Marvel movie is in any theater for months

Might be the worst comparison I've seen on CE today.

Preordering movie tickets is very unnecessary. A concert is something you plan for months in advance. A movie (especially one with the magnitude of an MCU movie) is widely available pretty much anytime you want after release.

The only exception is potentially preordering for a midnight release, which is fine for kids who are on break from school (or college kids with no classes the next day). But I can't imagine many adults wanting to be awake until ~3 and then waking up four hours later for work.

The media hype behind this movie is just bizarre. Preorder sales? Is this a recent phenomena, to purchase movie tickets a month in advance? Why didnt Fandango release actual numbers?

And this WaPo story:

https://tinyurl.com/ycssp8hh

Black Panther parties?

Theyre trying so hard to hype this because its a guaranteed flop. My interest didnt make it past the bad photoshop job on the poster.

In LA, theatres can be sold out for weeks because Friday/Saturday/Sunday are prime movie days. I'd rather skip ruining a night because I didn't bother to buy ahead of time, especially since I already know what date/time works best for me.

A majority of, if not all, vibranium (the shit that makes Captain America's shield) comes from Wakanda.

No. There are actual stories of mythical advanced civilizations hidden in the African wilds ala Atlantis by impossible weather and terrain. Wakanda is basically one of those, with exclusive access to vibranium, and a magical avatar of power that looks out for the interests of the nation and protects it from outsiders, and manifests in a citizen of Wakanda and gives them super powers. The Black Panther is the latest in line to inherit those powers. It is unclear if it's genetic, or if it's tied to the crown.

Earth cities are usually portrayed pretty realistically in the Marvel movies. I understand it's a fictional location so they can get away with it. It's nothing egregious, just odd and curious. Basically it's like one of their alien cities transplanted to Africa. If say, there's a looming threat of disaster on the city there will be less emotional investment from the audience since it's a totally made up place.
