Deadpool will be the only X-Men character that will show up in the MCU. Just because he felt like universe jumping.

I imagine IW or a companion movie is gonna have an after credits scene with Xavier perhaps communicating with the MCU Scarlett Witch.

The trade isn't finalized yet, IIRC. There are still things that need to be done over the next year.

I meant everything by the time IW Part 2 is finished, which is 2019. They'll definitely start with hints by then. Since the IG can warp reality, it'll also be the best time to introduce them.

They'll likely build on already established things like Dark Phoenix with the next X-Men eventually putting them in a situation to get involved with other cosmics and the multiverse.

I don't get how they'll do this without recasting and shit if the X-Men movies are split between three different time periods (90s X-Men, Deadpool and friends in the present, Logan/Laura in the future), with the main one being the 90s one.

And what about Hugh? He did say at some point he would love to be in a MCU movie and that it was pretty much a given Disney would get them back, and guess what? He was right.

I think they're gonna keep things separate.

As already said the Infinity Gauntlet is an easy explanation. Otherwise they could update the story, so mutants are just discovered now.

I could have swore the Infinity War was going to wrap up the current MCU, thus allowing them to start a new one.

Whether or not the Infinity Gems will play a part in the "reset" I don't know, but as pointed out, it wouldn't be impossible for one of them to do exactly that.

Maybe something happened that caused mutants to lose their powers and caused people to forget about mutants.

And then the events of Infinity War/Avengers 4 cause a reawakening of mutants.

Thanos goes to earth to find the Infinity Gems, defeats the Avengers, finds the gems and starts to recreate the universe to his image.
Dr. Strange manages to tap into the destructional energy that destroys the multiverses and manages to gather the heroes from other dimensions, whos universes are being destroyed as well.
Together they manage to defeat Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet is destroyed, which unleashes enough raw magic to destroy every multiverse.
Dr. Strange and CO discovers that the only way to survive is to channel some of that raw magic into creating a merged universe and WHAM, new shared MCU where only a handful of persons remembers how it was before.

They will probably just kick off a phase with the mutant gene being officially discovered and more mutants hitting the age their powers manifest (but a few old ones will have been around all along, Magneto, Xavier especially), and bring in the classic team (plus maybe Wolverine makes it in early, because Wolverine) with an all new cast. I don't think they are going to go to the trouble to merge realities or something that elaborate.

They did it in the comics. They can do it in the movies too.
