They're brand new clothes. Why bother washing them?

Old clothes from rummage sales or from a thrift store those need to be washed

You do realize new clothes doesn't mean they are clean right? Why wouldn't you wash them first? You don't know where it has been, who has touched it, and the cleanliness of the machines that it has been through.

Yes, that's the first thing I do after making sure that they fit, wash them with other new clothes.

Essentially every dermatologist would tell you that you absolutely should wash new clothes (with only other new clothes) due to the chemicals that are used for the treatment and transportation of new clothing, including formaldehyde. Rashes and skin irritation are very common from brand new clothes. Plus, they're likely at least somewhat dirty anyway from the transportation and display of them if bought in a brick and mortar store (plus possibly being tried on by someone else first).

Brand new jeans and t shirts I buy from shopko or walmart I don't wash right away. They're clean most of the time anyway.

Used underwear from a thrift store I'd wash pretty much.
