By no means does this game rank near the top of my favorite final fantasy titles, but I had fun with it.

I paid $10 and got 90+ hours from it. I was definitely pissed that they took the last crystarium grid upgrade (that I paid for) and chose to put it after the final boss. Why do games do this?? There's no point in getting your characters stronger if you've already saved the world. Just give us the damn content pre-boss.

You didn't mind pressing forward and barely doing anything in combat for 30 hours while watching a mediocre movie?

It just gets a bit boring at the end. I've played it twice and never finished the final chapter. Worth the experience though (also one of the best FF soundtracks IMO).

Hell, it's my favourite OST in the whole series. XIII-2 and Lightning Returns also had good music, though LR was probably the weakest for me.

Is gameplay similar in he sequels? I started the second one, but I thought throughout the first game that it would have been nice to be able to give more specific commands to my party.

Let's say you get hit with multiple status effects. Esuna will target the status effect closest to the right hand side of the bar, as opposed to the most annoying (slow).

It would have also been nice to turn off abilities for my allies. I liked using double Syn ability to have two characters use status buffs, but my party member would always double up on the move that I used.

Lots of room for improvement, but it was fun. Way better than ff12.

You get slightly more control. You can switch party members at will and also tell them to stick to single target or AoE or something like that. Also you get to listen to Crazy Chocobo in this game which is objectively the best rendition of the chocobo theme

The combat in FFXIII reminds me of the combat in Xenosaga 2, a game that is almost completely reviled for having bad combat. Yet I commonly hear people raving about how great it is

13-2 is pretty similar. Big difference is you have 2 permanent party members and the 3rd position can be swapped in and out. Basically the same idea as 13 but with a bit more freedom in battle.

13-3 is completely different, your character is solo and essentially has 3 separate ATBs that you micromanage.

That's the best non spoiler explanation I can consisely give

It's very streamlined. You don't have to spend a lot of time stacking up stocks or using specific attacks to break an enemy. I always thought the Xenosaga 2 system had promise but failed in its execution and 13 showed how to do it correctly. Battles in that game took way too long, in 13 they can be over very quickly if you know what you're doing

Also in XIII-2 you can switch party leaders, which is nice because if your leader dies, itll switch to the other one instead of giving you an instant game over.
