If you only care about the story, sure Mario and Zelda are similar to their previous games. But try and argue that Breath of the Wild is a rehash of Ocarina of Time. Also note that Mario and Zelda have been around for 30 years, but they don't have many games in the main series. So bringing up the value "30 years" means nothing because a majority of those years there was not a Mario or Zelda game. There are 13 console Mario games, 6 of them being 3D, and there was around 3-6 years between each one. There was a 6 year gap between 64 and Sunshine, and a 4 year gap between 3D World and Odyssey. And gameplay wise, 2D and 3D Mario games are completely different, so that's why I'm not lumping them all together. Zelda is even worse with releasing, with 9 console games, 6 being 3D, and 3 of them were released in the past 11 years.
