Current Events > Breath of the wild is a great game, but the jumping sucks

I feel it can be terribly unresponsive a good amount of the time. There were lots of times where I try to get a running start and link doesn't jump but just falls. That's my biggest gripe so far.

This. Check to make sure your TV is in game mode and/or that the model you're using doesn't have bad input delays.

The game wasn't really built for jumping across gaps or anything. Maybe jumping then gliding towards the wall below the ledge. Also don't put your TV in game mode lol

input lag is due to cheap TVs doing a lot of post-processing on the image to make it look better. Computer monitors generally have a 1ms input lag or less because they're just displaying what's being pushed through. Better TVs and TVs in Game Mode rely less of software magic and more or higher quality hardware and thus have fewer steps in between button press and display. You could completely eliminate input lag, but suddenly those $200 large screen wal-mart brand TVs are going to look like garbage.

What? Most TVs when not in game mode have an input lag of over 100ms. You want to get that down into the 30s or 20s (diminishing returns after that) to make a game feel somewhat normally responsive.

Guess it depends on each individual model. My Samsung has very little input lag out of the box. The game mode ruins the picture no matter how you set the settings. Can literally do identical settings as the custom mode and it'll still look bad.

I really don't think this particular issue has anything to do with the input lag though. Play the game in handheld and you'll still have the same issues.

the jumping is pretty bleh, but i dont find the game to be very jumping-intensive, so I dont have a problem with it. theres always stuff around to glide off of, and if there isnt, Ive got revalis gale. but yeah, in a vacuum, its pretty useless.

I'm gonna have to throw my hat in with the 'works fine for me' crowd. Maybe I've spent so much time playing Bethesda games - which actually do have unresponsive jumps, especially when you want to do a running jump off an edge - that I felt BotW moved like butter in comparison.

The only thing, on the Wii U, I found annoying was the jump and dive button are the same. But you don't even have to dive into the "ring of lilies" koroks, it just makes it faster. There's only like one side quest that requires a dive, if I remember right.

I mean, I'm not sure I'd be clamoring to claim "At least it's not a Bethesda game" is the same as "Working fine".
