I've had really good contenders in each category.

Seems like Tater Tots are the most consistent in that they're generally going to be tasty even at the low end of the spectrum. Onion rings tend to be the least reliable in this regard, but otoh really good onion rings are prettyuch untouchable.

THAT SAID, a place that really knows how to work the deep fryer and cuts them fresh will produce fries that can rival even the best onion rings. I've never had tater tots that could quite stack up against the best of french fries and onion rings but the increased surface area while maintaining a good volume gives you optimum cruch without sacrificing the tenderness of the potato.

Fries are the tried and true classic, but sometimes tots are just the fucking bomb.

I like tater tots, but it seems like they mix it with onion a lot these days which completely ruins it. So yeah fries are best by a mile. Not even worth discussing onion rings, disgusting.

Ugh, this is hard.

Fries have a high ceiling and a low floor. But you can lift them out of the dregs with some ketchup in a pinch.

Tots are always delicious, but SO greasy, and the ceiling isn't as high as fries.

Rings fall apart whenever you bite into them, which sucks. But the best ones don't, and then it's great. However, I can't eat many rings before feeling ill.

I'll give a tough vote to fries.
