I generally buy the latest model every 2-3 years (not iphone) and I've never had any issue with my phone dying prematurely. Certainly nothing that was drastically noticeable. And even if I've used a phone for a full three years, going into buy a new model, I still notice nothing wrong with my battery. I would describe myself as a medium to heavier user.
