Which is it?


Something with so much instructions and measuring and mixing and heating and freezing must be science!

Yet decorating gourmet meals and making tasty colorful treats must surely be art, yes??

Depends what cuisine, if you go with french cooking and their precise way of cooking it's more of a science, but you can just utilize their knowledge of food and make art with it.

So it's more art than science. You barely need to measure things when you know how things work.
And the art is not about presentation, it's about being able to balance the flavors and maximize the flavors of things and being able to combine things.

Only amateurs follow instructions. When you actually know what you're doing and deviate from recipes, that's when it becomes an art.

Kinda the same way that anyone can follow those paint by numbers to create something really pretty, but it didn't necessarily make them an artist. I still wouldn't call cooking a science though.

I think it's both. It depends on your approach to cooking. I would say that something like decorating a cake is more the art part, but baking that cake is more of the science piece.
