It is though. Except you can climb shit! Everything else is just some take on what's been done before since at least a generation ago.

And exploring an empty world isn't some new, innovative thing.

If you're into the game, that's cool. Calling it some crazy new innovative masterpiece is just extremely fanboy though.

Sure. If Im criticizing BotW, Id go:

-needs more dungeons and those dungeons need to be more varied
-needs more enemy types
-I miss some Zelda tools like the hookshot
-clearing enemy camps isnt often worthwhile enough

What I would NOT go for is:

because that shit just aint true, by sheer force of the engine alone.

What makes BotW great IS the capacity to explore, both literally in terms of exploring Hyrule, and in terms of exploring what makes the game tick what crazy thing that you cant believe they actually thought of will you accidentally or experimentally stumble upon next?

If thats not your bag, thats cool. Calling the game mediocre is just extremely tryhard, though.

For sure.

Ill talk all day about BotWs flaws with people it does have them, some I mind, some I dont have a real issue with but a lot of the people with the most vitriol for it have just... clearly either a) never played it or b) decided to hate it going in.

Again, if you wanna come at the game because you thought it felt dead, you thought shrines were boring, you thought combat was repetitive, you thought dungeons needed to be more plentiful and varied, you didnt like the story, you hated weapon durability, etc that is all 100% valid. I dont agree with some of that, but that is an opinion and I can obviously respect it.

Saying BotW is just another Ubisoft open world game just tells me you either never played BotW or never played Ubisoft games lol. They have next to nothing in common for gameplay besides being large.

You can not like something and still recognize what it did right. But man some of CE is clutching at straws trying to discount this game.

The game never stops you to say "You're not meant to do this" it just lets you.

Probably the BIGGEST reason I love the game.

I have just over 33 (or so) hours in it... only done 15 shrines, got about 40 Kroks, and I have only explored 1/5 of the total map area (from what I can tell), and I JUST unlocked the ability to take pictures ~ didn't see that coming

Having a ball with the game. The game constantly surprises me with what you are able / allowed to do.

BotW is the kinda game that really needed the structure from the old games. After a while, you're just going from shrine to shrine accomplishing simple puzzles for rewards that you can easily attain via common cooking ingredients or clearing another camp only to be rewarded with a weapon you don't care about or some umpteenth gem you don't need. The divine beasts are a fine little goal but they're no more engaging than any other shrine because by virtue of the design of the game, they had to be doable at any point.

People are shilling hard for this game, it's a fine game but people calling it the best game of all time either don't play any other games besides Nintendo games, or this must be their first video game. Hell I'd say OoT, MM, and WW were better than this
