Um... can you fail cases in this game?

I got it on my Switch since I like detective games like Phoenix Wright and Danganronpa. However I'm getting the impression that I can fail to collect all pieces of evidence in a trial / there might be alternate endings. Is this true? Or is there only one ending?

I believe you can charge the wrong person/people if you don't do all the legwork, but I could be remembering incorrectly. I apologize if that is the case.

Again, you can't blame us for not remembering. The game was that lousy.

IIRC, you can't fail the cases. Or you can't fail most of them.

I took my time on my first playthrough re-loading every time I fucked something up, and then someone told me that it didn't matter because everything ends up working out in the end of every case.

Edit: This was back in the original game, though. No idea if they changed any this shit for the new versions.

Some cases yes but the main plot continues anyway

It's actually one of the big complaints about the game. Your actions don't really matter.

You can fail them in the sense that you don't get the right outcome, but it doesn't stop you from progressing

Some cases will give you a cutscene of you getting chewed out by your superior if you flub one of the segments, but they don't keep you from progressing and it has no effect on the story

Fun fact:

The reason why Phelps gets so angry when you pick "doubt" is that it was never supposed to be "Truth" , "Doubt" and "Lie"

It was meant to be "Coax", "Force" and "Lie" the entire point was that Cole is trying to press the guy for more information.

However the publishers thought that gamers would be too stupid to know what "Coax" and "Force" meant so they changed it to "Truth" and "Doubt."

That's why Cole is always so angry for doubt and acts like they are lying for truth.

On the handheld version it now says "Good Cop", "bad cop" and "lie"

I loved that game, people who didn't just didn't know how to appreciate the game.
I think you will always end up with the same suspects, but the point of the game is the interrogation and the searching for clues. That's just how it's supposed to be.

Haha, these posts are pretty funny. I like the main character guy because he's Ken Cosgrove from Mad Men. It actually seems in character for him to be a police officer lol

I understand the Good Cop / Bad Cop / Accuse structure, but I really wish it were just Good Cop / Accuse, where you could only turn "bad" if you had evidence that contradicts the statement (this would make it more like Phoenix Wright, I guess). I'm not a fan of having to be the bad cop, I guess, lol. But I guess that's the point of seedy 40's/50's LA
