If it was just him I'd say it was all lies, there was too much build up in the force awakens about who they were, and her force vision in that movie contradicts what he said. I'm still leaning towards it being a lie because making her feel unimportant was his best shot at convincing her to join him. --- What did the pirate say on his 80th birthday? Yet, none of these things in TFA stopped Rian from going his own way in TLJ. JJ could easily write his way around this in Episode 9 and undo Rian's decision by inserting adoptive parents. It's impossible to speculate at this point, unless we psychoanalyze the directors. --- BKSheikah owned me so thoroughly in the 2017 guru contest, I'd swear he used the Lens of Truth to pick his bracket.
