Why do they talk a big game about having smaller government and less/no invasion of your privacy but yet think the cops are almost never wrong? Or are for all the things Jeff Sessions wants and is doing?

how is being pro- cops authoritarian?

Trying to enforce the ten commandments be in all public schools?

Not caring if cops profile people or even when cops jump to shooting people in areas of the body known to be instantly fatal, etc etc?

I actually voted Gary.

And considering the vast majority of voters voted for either Hillary or Trump, that says almost nothing.

As someone who voted for GJ himself this seems incredibly dishonest.

Though the right as an ideology is commonly associated with smaller government, I imagine that most people are okay with the government doing most anything so long as they agree with it.

I don't like the GOP but would live under certain types of authoritarian rule. This sort of thing is much more nuanced than it seems... and because somebody always probes me when I say polarizing things like that:

My ideal government is the former Prussian constitutional monarchy. I want checks and balances, but also a powerful person at the helm, doing something for the sake of their nation and its subjects rather than what amounts to an unscrupulous corporate puppet balancing re-election and pleasing donors. The head of state is still bound to uphold the constitution and entertain the advice of representatives in parliament and make changes accordingly.

I am a bit biased though, as my dad's family were somewhat affluent Prussian bourgeoisie before the Russians took everything...

Because they're not actually for smaller government.

That's partly it, they want smaller government in the regulatory spheres (financial/ecological/etc. regulations) but bigger government in the military, intelligence, and social spheres.
