I can't fathom how anyone unironically would say Ghostbusters 2 is worse than the shitfest that the new ghostbusters movie is, either you're insane or drank too much of the kool-aid, or were born way past the time it was relevant.

The new ghostbusters has no redeeming qualities, its an awful movie all around, and people like to deflect on how bad it is by saying "hurr you probably don't like it because it has wymin in it!"

Those people who deflect to folks not liking it because women are in it are fucking morons but let's not sit here and pretend GB2 isn't a colossal piece of shit either. The only reason I can see somebody enjoying it unironically is because of nostalgia. The movie felt like such a half assed unwarranted sequel riding of the coat tail of the first movie's success.
Meanwhile, I would say the new movie is an unnecessary entry to the series as well but it at least kept me entertained to a certain extent. As a fan of Paul Feig, it is one of his weaker movies but you can tell he had more passion in the project than whatever the fuck was going on with GB2.

Isn't that exactly what all the super hero movies are doing? Ever since the writers strike and the recession people have noticed a lack of creativity in Hollywood and a need to ride other movies' success. This really isn't new.

in any case i was referring to "going in style".

comedy about a bunch of oldies robbing a bank but you don't think ocean's when you watch it since it's not riding the immediate coattails of an already established franchise.

edit: mistake about ant-man since it was actually dr strange but ant-man also has a lot in common with IM1 so not entirely wrong.

ok now try and tie that back to what this has to do with "going in style" functioning on its own terms/name/concept as opposed to ocean's girls riding on the ocean's franchise as a whole which is a little bit more than having cameos or sharing plot devices.

there's no shared Heist Cinematic Universe as far as i know.

I watched the trailer, and it doesn't look half-bad. I wasn't over the moon for the first remake (pretty sure I didn't bother to watch the sequels), so I don't have any stakes in the future of the franchise.
