That would certainly have made for a more ambitious story and completely fit with how often Rey raged out on Kylo in the movie. Her constant anger every time she talked to him was completely wasted on their actual meeting. It's not too late for a third movie turn, but my guess is the writer/director didn't want to rock the boat TOO much with what would have been IMO a better but riskier plot point.

on one hand, it'd be cool if she joined the Dark Side, but on the other, I'd also be fine with that stuff all being a red herring

Would've been great if Luke defeated Kylo and Kylo was left for dead with a hand missing.
The next movie would start with kylo uniting with the Knights of Ren to defeat the first order and the rebellion. Three way fight. Im afraid Star wars is too dull now.

They did claim to see each other's future, him returning to the light, and her falling to the dark. Plus Luke gave her 1 lesson and went straight to the dark side, and she definitely has anger issues. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if she does temporarily fall, but I agree the next movie is too late to utilize that properly.

Also, it's not like they didn't build up the mystery around her parents in tfa then just drop that(unless he was lying for some reason). So they cou,d easily just drop any notion of her being tempted by the dark.

It shouldve ended with a Kylo and Rey sex scene showing full penetration and Kylo keeping his waist high pants on

I mean he could have lied to get her to turn. He made a convincing argument with telling her that her parents were nobodies and she was a nobody but "not to him". I wouldn't exactly expect Kylo to always be honest.

They ruined a good moment to move Kylo into a morally ambiguous grey area and asks Rey to work with him to dismantle the old orders like Luke was telling her and you gradually find in the next movie he's just going full Dark Side, but then he asks her to 'rule' with him and throws that all out the window

Plus, she's the one who first said they were nobody. Though, I think it's possible he was lying, is because he knew who she was before anyone else did in TFA and was angry that she went with Fin, then Maz asking Han who she was and it cutting away before he answers, then her force vision showed them leaving the planet and not just being dead in a ditch on the same planet like he said. She was refusing him, and making her feel like she needed him would suit his needs.

I honestly hoping that would happen, or Kylo Ren turns good and there's a bigger bad.

I was hoping for anything other than what happened, basically, where Kylo is definitely the bad guy, and Rey is definitely the good guy.
