So I typed "vosdters" in an attempt to type "coasters." Now, while I understand that might be too far off to autocorrect to coasters (other recommendations were "casters" and "toasters"), I don't get why, when I pressed spacebar, it didn't autocorrect to at least one of them. It just left in the gibberish.

Like it clearly recognized it as not a word, so why not at least try and correct it? I mean it had a 33% chance of being right, as opposed to keeping what was obviously not a word.

I noticed this happens sometimes.
I concluded its because the keyboard thinks there's a higher chance you meant to type that jumble of letters

I think after you make the same typo enough times, it just saves that word into your phones dictionary. My phone often corrects real words into fake words. It's super assifying

Yes i realise there is a typo, but that's what my phone corrected annoying into so im going to keep it to prove a point.

Mine is very inconsistent. For example I've come to rely on my autocorrect to capitalize I or put an apostrophe in words like I'm, don't, we've, etc. because it saves me a keystroke here and there. The problem is it doesn't always do it. It will leave a lowercase i or not change dont to don't, just often enough to be irritating.

This has been the case too, but I can't think of another time in the last year or so I've wanted to type "coasters" or even "toasters." This gibberish was just so far off that it made no sense.

But there are others that, yeah, get saved as real words that are commonly types wrong, like "ehat" instead of "what."

I often have to pause for a split second when I make a typo because I'm not sure if it'll leave my gibberish or be smart enough to correct it.

There's one that I literally can't remove -- it's "He s" when I meant to type "He's." Normally you just press and hold on the recommended word when it comes up and it gives you the option to remove it, but with this one, I guess because they're a space involved, it won't let me remove. I just click and hold and nothing happens. So I have to type out "he's" manually every time, which is obviously an extra pain in the ass because it has an apostrophe.

Mine also has a big problem with quotation marks. It will let me put opening quotes no problem, but it erases my closing quotes literally every single time. I type the quotation marks and they disappear as soon as I hit space.

One of the first things I do after I get a new phone is turn off auto-correct. I'll use it when it stops changing my correctly spelled words to the wrong ones. :p

Good to know I'm not the only one with this issue

It usually stops after the 2nd or 3rd time, but it's obnoxious.

the default for Note 8, which they're probably just the same keyboard across all flagship Samsung phones, was stupid annoying. I'd type a word like word but I meant ward so I'd correct it to ward then it would change it back to word

like

mother fucker

i corrected it for a goddamned reason

I find that auto-correct on my Galaxy S8 Plus is fairly accurate. Predictive text is good too.
